The University of Kentucky is known as one of the most successful college cheerleading programs in the world. No other college cheerleading team has dominated the UCA National Championships like the University of Kentucky.
Incoming freshman, Alejandro Madrigal documented the team’s recent experience at UCA College Camp. The UK cheerleading program consists of two teams: Blue Squad and White Squad, both of which compete and participate in game and alumni functions.
The team has taken home the UCA National Collegiate Cheerleading Championship title a total of 20 times (1985, 1987, 1988, 1992, 1995, 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2012 and 2014), more than any other Division 1A school. UK’s squad is the only team to win back-to-back championships three times, once in 1987 and 1988, again in 1995 and 1996, and a third time in 2008, 2009 and 2010. Furthermore, UK is the only squad ever to win three, four, five, six, seven and eight championships in a row.
We are excited to see what the University of Kentucky has in store for us this season. The team will make their way to the sideline in a few weeks as College Football begins as well as beginning their journey to return to the top of collegiate cheerleading’s national stage.
