Cheerleading Coach Passes Away at 36
Our thoughts and condolences go out to the family of Brandon Thomas Knight, 36, of Tupelo, Mississippi who passed away on October 30, 2016 of a brain aneurysm at Vanderbilt Hospital in Nashville, TN. Brandon was the owner and a cheerleading coach at Southern Heat All Star Cheerleading of Tupelo.
Brandon was born in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida on March 30 ,1980. He moved to Mobile, AL when he was eight and graduated from Mobile Christian Academy. He attended Samford University in Birmingham, AL and the University of South Alabama in Mobile, AL where he studied Exercise Science.
Brandon was married to Beverly Carmichael on June 20, 2013 and became the father of two stepsons; Blake Mauldin of Collinsville, MS and Jace Mauldin of Tupelo. He is survived by his parents Bruce and Tonie Knight of Saltillo, MS; grandparents Rev. Tommy and Mollie Watson of Griffin, GA; sister Brittany Stephens (Eli) of Denver, CO, and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his grandparents James Melbourne Knight and Doris Mizell McKenzie.
Brandon Knight was always in the movie theater to see the opening of new movies. You can bet he would have on his matching hat and was color coordinated all the way down to his pair of tennis shoes which he had to match every outfit. He was a snazzy dresser and you knew underneath all that he was always packing. He loved guns and going to shoot was a favorite hobby of his. Brandon was a diehard Florida Gators fan and loved SEC football. Brandon’s love of all genres of music especially hip hop and cheerleading was widely known. Brandon staffed one summer for Elite Cheer in PA and six summers for Fellowship of Christian Cheerleaders. He traveled across the country doing cheer camps and sharing his faith with many young athletes. During college, he worked at American Cheerleading Centers/Bama Allstarz in Birmingham and Cheer Force One in Mobile. After moving to Tupelo, Brandon owned and operated Southern Heat All Star Cheerleading and Knight Sounds Entertainment. He also worked part time at The Buckle.
The funeral service will be held at 3:00 pm on November 6, 2016 at West Jackson Street Baptist Church, Tupelo, MS with visitation an hour before. Visitation will also be held from 4:00 pm – 7:00 on November 5, 2016 at Holland Funeral Directors in Tupelo. Reverend Tommy Watson, Reverend Keith Cochran, Shane Robbins, and Pastor Jeff Robbins will be officiating. Music will be provided by Michael Gibson, pianist; Tricia Robbins, violinist; Cornerstone Worship Team Members – Shari Robbins, Venisha Johnson, Brentley Rawson, Michael Stamps, Adam Ward, David Scott, Vence McNairy, and Ramaul Warren. Burial will follow the funeral at Tupelo Memorial Park Cemetery with Pastor Gentry Salters and Pastor Jeff Robbins officiating. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Holland Funeral Directors in Tupelo, MS.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to the Cornerstone Tupelo Building Fund or Cornerstone Missions Department at 1921 Briar Ridge Road, Tupelo, MS 38804; or the Fellowship of Christian Cheerleaders, 2600 Northlake Drive, Suite D, Suwanee GA 30024
