Cheerleader Killed in Murder/Suicide
Two people are dead and one is in recovery after police say a man opened fire on his girlfriend and her father on Christmas Eve, then turned the gun on himself.
Pearl Police Department Lt. Brian McGairty reports that Heather King, 17, and her father were both shot by Matthew Wilson, 22, on Saturday, before it appears he shot himself.
“My daughter rolled the window down and that’s when he shot me,” Heather King’s father said. “He then shot my daughter in the face and killed himself. I was a witness to every bit of it. I’ve seen all of the news reports out there (and) everything is too sugar-coated. It is murder. He planned it. He set it up.”
Heather King’s parents said Wilson texted them and said he wanted the belonging he had left at their house. After they brought his things out, Wilson pulled out a gun.
“When I turned around, my daughter turned her head and she never saw it coming. Not one bit of it,” Heather King’s father said.
Heather was currently a Senior at Brandon High School in Brandon, MS. She enjoyed art, roller skating and was also a competitive cheerleader for Central Mississippi Cheerleading in Ridgeland, MS.
All three victims were found in the yard with gunshot wounds, McGairty said.
Heather King and Wilson were both pronounced dead at the University of Mississippi Medical Center. Her father left the hospital with a bandage covering a gunshot wound on his leg.
