At Cheerville’s showcase last weekend, the athletes weren’t the only ones preparing for a big moment. Coaches Alexa and Michael—two powerhouse leaders whose relationship has grown through six seasons, two states, and countless competitive highs, were about to experience a memory that would become part of gym history.
Cheer has been woven into their story from day one. They coached their first team together the same season they started dating, and even when Michael spent a year in Arizona, their bond only strengthened. They coached against each other at NCA and Summit—both taking home titles—and eventually reunited back in Tennessee. Their athletes watched them evolve as a couple and as mentors, calling them the perfect blend of opposites: calm and fiery, loud and steady, always united in the belief that coaching is about building great humans first.

This season felt especially full-circle. For the first time, the athletes they had each molded over the years were finally together on one Senior team, “their kids,” now one family. And Michael knew they had to be part of his proposal.
Only one athlete, Aylana, knew he had the ring (“30 girls can’t keep a secret,” he joked). He carried it around all day—through warmups, through Alexa’s rising frustration, through his own nerves, waiting for the right moment. As Venom ran out to the floor, instead of taking their opening spots, the athletes circled up again. Alexa immediately questioned it, but before she could intervene, Michael ran out, slipped into the huddle, and the circle closed around him.
