The cheerleading community has been shaken following the arrest of Charles A. Moore, 34, a former youth cheerleading coach, who is facing new charges of sexual exploitation of children. This arrest follows a comprehensive, multi-jurisdictional investigation involving the Barrow County Sheriff’s Office, Loganville Police Department, and Gwinnett County Sheriff’s Office.

Moore was first arrested last month for a December 2023 incident involving a 16-year-old girl. After bonding out, he was arrested again on June 25, 2024, at his residence in Snellville, following the execution of a search warrant that uncovered additional evidence of his misconduct.

“This arrest is the result of an ongoing, multi-jurisdictional investigation,” said Barrow County Sheriff Jud Smith. “We received information from the Loganville Police Department after their earlier arrest of Moore for sexual exploitation of children.”

Moore was terminated from his coaching position at Star Athletics in November 2023, following complaints from parents about inappropriate social media posts. Sheriff Smith praised the cooperation of Star Athletics throughout the investigation.

Authorities believe there may be additional victims and are encouraging them to come forward. “These girls will not be in trouble if they provide information about Moore’s behavior,” said Investigator Heather Stafford.

“Moore has been grooming these young girls for his own sexual gratification,” stated Sheriff Smith. “I am extremely proud of the efforts of all the agencies involved in getting him off the streets.”

Currently held without bond at the Barrow County Detention Center, Moore was denied bond during his initial court appearance in Barrow County.
