Varsity Brands is officially closing the United Spirit Association (USA) corporate offices in California, sources confirm. The decision follows the expiration of the building’s lease, with Varsity executives opting not to renew and instead relocate operations and staff to Phoenix, Arizona and Memphis, Tennessee.

An external email sent on March 27 announced the new USA mailing address:

The United Spirit Association was founded in 1950 by Robert Olmstead under the original name “California Specialty Camps.” Unlike other cheer organizations, USA focused on a broad range of spirit-based instruction, training not just cheerleaders but also song leaders, dance teams, drum majors, mascots, and more.

Varsity Spirit acquired USA in 1994, expanding its camp reach across the Western United States. USA’s summer camps became a staple for cheerleaders in Arizona, California, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, and beyond. With this shift in headquarters, it remains to be seen how the move will impact USA’s deep West Coast roots.

With operations transitioning to Phoenix, questions arise regarding USA’s presence in California-based camps and events. Will USA maintain its West Coast dominance, or does this signal a broader restructuring of Varsity’s camp and competition offerings?
